Unisex Candles Big at Bond No. 9

Amber, lavender lead scent stories.

Bond No. 9 (which is also the address of its headquarters boutique at 9 Bond Street, in NoHo) is well-known for its upscale, New York City centric fragrances. The Bond No. 9 collection of women's, men's, and unisex eaux de parfum, has a dual mission: restore artistry to perfumery, and mark every New York neighborhood with a scent of its own.

Each fragrance represents a specific downtown, midtown, or uptown locale, or a city-wide sensibility. With new introductions every season, Bond No. 9 infuses the island of Manhattan with scents. It was created and founded by Laurice Rahme in 2003.

Two candles in the range reach out to those desiring a less floral, more gender neutral home fragrance. The lovely New Haarlem Scented Candle ($98) is billed as androgyny in a purple glass.  Notes include lavender, bergamot, green leaves, coffee, cedarwood, amber, vanilla, tonka and patchouli.

Also intriguing is the New York Amber Scented Candle ($140) touted as a “metro-perfume candle” by Bond No. 9. This one, a little stronger than the New Haarlem, features bergamot, saffron, nutmeg, white peppercorn, magestic rose, jasmine, osmanthus, oud, amber, sandalwood, musk, myrrh and benzoin tears. Both feature sturdy gold caps to cap off the fragrance for future usage.
